The disgrace who was taking what should have been a real and credible military historian's position at Central Connecticut probably made up part or all of the war story at the heart of a recent article the Chronicle of Higher Education should not have entertained publishing in the first place:

This guy somehow survived what would have been a career ender for any of the rest of us. And given a second life, this is what we get? Let's hope the Chronicle does its due diligence. But as is typical of Bellisles, he has left himself with enough outs to provide a defense. Using a possibly fictitious student as a human shield -- you stay classy, Michael Bellisiles.
