I was just talking to my friend Jim on the phone. He made an assertion I couldn't believe, so I checked it out and it was pretty much true. Here it is. Texas has much lower taxes than California and almost the same tax revenue. Here is California ($93 billion). Here is Texas ($87 billion). As businesses continue to flee California and the state is preparing to raise taxes yet again, it is easy to get depressed about the future of my state.
And Texas has a better educational system. And they pay less per pupil.

We have beaches, snowy mountains, redwoods, deserts, and rivers. They have lower taxes. It's a trade-off I guess.
