New government

Most of the results are in, and the Conservatives have defeated the Liberals to form the next government of Canada. But, contrary to many predictions (including mine), the Liberals held on quite strongly to deny the Tories a stronger minority position. Right now, the standings look to be:

Conservative: 123
Liberal: 104
New Democratic: 30
Bloc Quebecois: 50
Ind: 1

I'm too tired right now to offer much analysis, but suffice it to say that some of the trends I noted in June 2004 have remained, and it will be interesting to see what happens with a new government in power.
