Jonah Goldberg has a reading list of his favorite books on modern American liberalism. I am going to write him to let him know that the author of A Fierce Discontent is Michael McGerr, that Allen Matusow, The Unraveling of America is an excellent book on liberalism in the 1960s, and that no matter how good his other books are, his list is a fraud if it doesn't include Liberalism and Its Challengers, by one Alonzo Hamby.
Nevertheless, it is a very good list, and one that Big Tenters will appreciate.
