Sea Lions Gone Wild

Sea Lions go nuts in Newport Harbor (CA).

My favorite lines: 1) "Tonight, the Harbor Commission will discuss the situation, which took on added urgency after 18 sea lions piled onto a 37-foot sailboat this month and sank it." 2) "...neighbors contemplated painting a small electric boat to look like an orca, complete with piped-in whale sounds."

I've been saying for years that we need to appease the Sea Lions. Here is the result of years of barking back at them at Sea World, of laughing at them when they clap while sitting on those overgrown fez hats at the circus, of years of ignoring the fact that they have long cast lustful eyes on our priceless and vulnerable sailboat and dinghy fleets, for years of giving tax cuts and preferential treatment to the dolphins, of watching with awestruck giggling when we see a killer whale wipe one out on the Discovery Channel. They don't sink our boats because of who we are, they sink them because of our past actions. That and they're really fat and heavy, bloated by years of poor diet celebrated by our society. We need to understand the root causes of their anger and begin a dialogue, but one in their language, that is sensitive to their cultural values.

Give them a free fish and they can eat once. Teach them to fish and they can feed themselves for a lifetime....it takes a village.

I'm bored.
