Since we're on the subject...

or aren't at all, the "gulag" debate has appeared elsewhere now: Canada's medical gulag. While I've luckily not had much contact with the medicare system back home, I do know that it's far from a gulag. Nor is single-payer health-care "totalitarian". I understand what Jacob is trying to do rhetorically, but since we've decided that "gulag" is not an appropriate comparison for anything other than a prison camp, I think we could agree that at the very least, such hyperbole weakens his argument.
