More missile blowback

Things are starting to heat up again in the missile defense debate, on both sides of the border:
The closer we get, the farther apart we are
Say what?
Diplomacy works in mysterious ways

And the most spot-on analysis, from Andrew Coyne, possibly the best columnist in Canada: The US is in no mood for this nonsense. Also check out his blog comments on the main page, andrewcoyne.com, including on an excerpt from WSJ editorial.

Also this from another columnist, Claire Hoy:

"There is no mystery why Martin has chosen not to lift a finger to help the Bush program. It's because the public opinion polls -- particularly in Quebec -- show that Canadians are generally opposed to missile defence.
But why is that? Mainly because the Liberals and their allies in Parliament have painted an evil -- and false -- picture of the program, successfully selling the ridiculous notion that the plan would necesarily involve 'the weaponization of space.'
That justification masks the real reason for the government's opposition to the Bush plan. It has nothing to do with weapons in space, and everything to do with an irrational hatred of all things American."

I'll have some more comments on this soon, when I have some time to organize my thoughts properly. For now, you can see my post from last Friday.
