Shanahan Firing

No politics today. I've been thinking about the Denver Broncos and the firing of Mike Shanahan. Most of us are football fans but none of us are fans of the Denver Broncos. (Full disclosure: our teams are the Browns, the 49ers, and the Packers-- Am I leaving anyone out?)

So why do I care about Mike Shanahan? First, he always struck me as a class act. I value success and character. Second, I understand Pat Bowlen's position. Mike Shanahan might go on to win a Super Bowl with another team, but he probably wouldn't win another one with the Broncos. I lived in Colorado for a couple of years and came to respect the organization, even if I would never root for the team. The Broncos aren't going to find a "better" coach than Shanahan. Shanahan won't go to a "better" organization. The two just didn't fit any longer.

When I first heard the news, I didn't understand. Watching the press conferences of Bowlen and Shanahan, I get it.

Thoughts?
