Stanley Weintraub's five best memoir-type books from the Pacific theater of World War II. Without a doubt, the biggest upset is that E.B. Sledge, With the Old Breed, did not make the list.
If you can't read six books, and absolutely had to replace one of the books on the list with Sledge, I would go with Hiroshima, but only because it is not technically a memoir. But read Hiroshima, too. It is amazing.
