Ordinary Democracy

This Financial Times article notes that in the recent Afghan parliamentary election, Fauzia Gailani beat Ismail Khan for the seat from Herat. What the article doesn't tell you is that Fauzia Gailani is an attractive female aerobics instructor with no political credentials and Ismail Khan is the heavily-bearded, fundamentalist supporter of the previous local warlord. It seems to me that the Afghans are well on their way to becoming just another ordinary democracy.
