Take a test to find out where you are on a right/left, authoritarian/libertarian scale here. I think some of the questions are pretty poorly worded, but it is interesting.
Take the test and let us know where you end up. (I will tell you my results in the comments to this post.)

I was almost exactly in the center of the grid--one block to the left (how about that?) and one block toward authoritarian.
Me too but in the other direction. I am 2.13 to the right on economic and a little over half a block leaning toward social libertarian.
Economic Left/Right: 2.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.67
I will say that I don't think this test works in an American context.
economic left/right: .75
social libertarian/authoritarian: -1.95
Economic left/righ: -2.88
Social libertarian/authoritarian: .10

Deep in the Empty Quarter, with a coordinate of (3,-3.64).
It turns out that I took the same test in June 2001 and rang up a (2.24,-3.04). Hmmm.
Economic Left/Right: 0.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.05.
Almost right down the middle--brings to mind some old saying about getting hit by traffic going both directions. Sounds about right.
I do agree with Stephen that the wording of the questions leave alot to be desired....
I thought we were supposed to be a bunch of right-wing nutcases who take our marching orders from Karl Rove. What gives?
Economic Left/Right: -0.13
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.15
No surprise:
Economic Left/Right: -6.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.05
I'm more pinko than Mark. But Mark's still more pinko than you all. :)
I had my students do this last year after we studied 1984. A lot of them were surprised to learn they weren't as "liberal" as they thought they were! I used a different site, though, one that explained all different kinds of political philosophies (mostly through different American presidents), and for some reason I didn't bookmark the URL. Has anyone come across other "political compass" sites/quizzes?
Ahh... here it is:
