Oh, just shut up!

I'm really not targeting him, but he just keeps doing it. In case you missed it, during NBC's hurricane relief telethon, Kanye West decided to "stray from the script" to offer his own opinions. Here are a couple of articles that explain what happened, and give a transcript of what he said: Kanye West Strays From Rehearsed Lines, Blasts Bush On Live NBC Broadcast; Kanye West Ruins Relief Show

Whether what he said is right or not, or even whether you agree with him or not, the point is, a fundraising telethon is not the time to be spouting off. As one of the articles points out, the telephone operators had to take time to deal with people complaining about his comments, rather than taking donations. That's a real productive use of the airtime and opportunity.

The video is available out there on the web: Comments by Kayne West on NBC Hurricane Katrina Fundraiser (free registration required). Just watch poor Mike Myers try to understand what was happening, and what he was supposed to do about it. And what must have gone through Chris Tucker's mind when the cameraman looked at him suddenly and said, "Mr. Tucker, you're on!"

What a fool. Like Hayley Barbour said, this will bring out the best in some people and the worst in others. My fellow FSU alumnus Deion Sanders (if you can be called an alumnus just for playing football and not going to class) called for athletes to donate to the relief effort. So there are probably just as many, if not more, celebrities working positively for the relief effort. I guess I'm a half full kinda guy.

Sorry to comment on something unrelated, but I was watching the Clemson/TA&M game and ABC interrupted it for an update that William Rehnquist died. In their eulogy, the word 'conservative' was used no less than 6 times and his parents were referred to as 'stauch republicans'. Rehnquist, they said, only deviated from his states rights template once; to declare GWB the winner in 2000. There was also mention that during one of his confirmation hearings, he was accused of...you guessed it, harassing blacks at the polls to keep them from voting. They touched all the bases in their effort to make him out to be a monster.
