Reader Mail

From our good friend Robert, who is on a Fulbright to Norway:

Gentlemen,

I hope you all are doing well. I am sitting in my office in Oslo, which after I re-arrange my furniture in a week or so will afford a most pleasant view of Oslo Fjord (while the sun is still up). Week one is done. I have survived both Norwegian state and university bureaucracies (not surprisingly, the university was the worse of the two) and am starting to feel pretty settled in. Oslo is a plesant place, and though for whatever reason it never occured to me before, the largest place I have ever lived. On the other hand, it only has 500,000 people, so it is a far cry from any number of our American giants. Though there has been far too little meat and too much peanut butter in the last week, I have already found my way to the cheapest bar in Oslo (Jeff is also a veteran), but unfortunately that still runs you about $3 a pint (0.4 L if you want to be technical) during happy hours. Such is life. I forgot to pack my power converters, so will not be able to send along any digital photos for a few weeks, but I will as soon as I am able.

I will look forward to keeping up with Big Tent on a more regular basis from the side of the Atlantic.

You know that commercial when the bartender drops a case of Heineken and that guy in the bed says that for some reason he felt all cold inside? That is exactly the feeling that every major member of the beef industry had when Robert left the country.

Anyway, we are glad to hear from Robert, and we will happily post any more updates he sends from Norway.
