I hope you have a lot of responses to D-Day, because I know everyone's story is different. I know that we know everyone's fears, thoughts, on this day were different. I know that everyone that was there remembers a lot about what really happened. I know that our squad, my very good friends, my buddies...there was three of us left that morning of the 18th of October 1944 [the day he was captured by the Germans]. Some were killed, some were captured, some were wounded earlier. Most combat veterans don't want something for nothing. All we really want is for people to realize that because of veterans, because of sacrifices that were made of men and women, because of lives lost, many wounded, many of them with minds affected by what they've been through......we just want everybody to realize that because of all this, we still have the greatest country in the world.
And that's something I'm very proud of.

Keep these things coming, Tom. I'm putting this one on the board for class today. Just a little post-Veteran's Day reminder. Thanks.
P.S.
We have a community service requirement here at my high school. And unlike many of the teachers here, I require my students to actually go serve someone, as in, go spend time doing something for someone in the community rather than just donate coats or canned goods (all nice causes, but faceless). Anyway, one student has taken on the task of visiting a friend of the family that served in WW II and recently had his home broken into and his medals, among other items, stolen. Brandon, my student, has made it his goal to find out how he can get replacement medals. In the meantime he is also listening to the many stories the man has to tell. Not bad for a 15 year old kid.
Greg:
No problem. There are thousands of these things, and I'm only through the "B"s.
