Goldberg on Safire

Here.

In case anyone cares, Jonah Goldberg is a good guy. Earlier this year he had a quotation in one of his pieces from Peter Viereck, and I sent him an email to ask about the source. He got right back to me. (Incidentally, the quotation came from Daniel Bell, The Radical Right, a book that was no more than three feet from me when I asked the question. I'm ashamed I did not realize the quotation came from Bell, then again I'm quite pleased that I owned the book.) A couple of days ago he asked a question on the Corner about Charles Lindbergh and anti-Semitism, so I emailed him a note and a few sources. We had a nice little email exchange and talked about a few ideas.

I'm not name-dropping here, just pointing out that a pretty busy guy is willing to engage in the serious exchange of ideas with strangers (I just gave him the basic credentials: PhD candidate in American History). That is always nice to see.
