John O'Sullivan writes that Modern evil demands medieval response. Hat tip to the Volokh Conspiracy.
Interesting stuff, especially because he uses "Man on Fire," a movie the wife and I just watched this weekend. He's right, I was cheering for Creasy to kill 'em all in the movie, nasty as it was. The real problem with the movie as a movie isn't the celebration of revenge--the bad guys are still really bad--it was that (spoiler alert, so stop reading) the girl wasn't killed after all. It was a total Hollywood cop-out, it made no sense in the movie, and it led to the whole plot and logic of the film falling apart. Too bad. There was potential there.
