I've said this a thousand times since the convention - making Kerry's military record the centerpiece of his campaign was a bad decision. A solid record in the Senate would have been a much better platform from which to challenge the Republicans on national security and terrorism, but Kerry handicapped himself by voting all over the place or not showing up at all. So he went with his military record, somehow blind to the fact that all wars are messy and ugly, and now we're stuck with a campaign that's messy and ugly.
