News Bias

This is just one of many in a long string of stories about bias in the media and the related success of FOX News. I have my own opinions about why these two phenomena are so, but I have another question which I cannot quite reconcile. Will journalism, as a business, rectify the apparent imbalance between supply and demand? If they are rational businesses peopled by true professionals, I think a change in tone could be rather quick in coming. If they are organizations owned and operated solely for the purpose of purveying a particular point of view by the true-believers, then I think we'll have more of the current trends. It will be interesting to see which of these two possibilities is closer to reality. I know which one I hope it is, but I don't know which one it will be.
