He calls himself a "Sept. 11 American" because he knows "the world has changed and that Americans must defend America. Everything else we do, everything else we believe, pales incomparison to that duty."

When I was class president of my senior class in 1991, Ben Nighthorse Campbell wrote a letter to me and our principal requesting that he be allowed to go through graduation ceremonies. He had quit high school and left Auburn to join the Airforce and got his GED while serving. In 1991, 40 years after he would have walked, he asked if he could walk with our class. I said yes. I like his editorial, too.
