Interviews

I had a pleasant interview yesterday. I will try to discuss it in as much detail as possible without revealing my own identity or where I was interviewing.
My flight got in on a little early, confirming my everlasting love to America West Airlines. The interview process itself was very different from anything I have done so far. It started with a one hour written exam-- very strange. It was like I was taking my comprehensive exams again. The interview with the department and selected members of the faculty and administration was also like my oral exams. They didn't ask me about teaching or research. They asked me about content. I am not joking. The first question was about Alexander Hamilton. One question was on a how the industrial revolution changed domestic politics in Britain. Just to be clear, I have never even taken a British history class, and I would not be teaching British history. Very strange. The meeting with the President of the college was very cool, though. He seemed like a great guy, and he would be wonderful to work for. In short, if I make it through the first round, I think I have a good shot.

Also, I just got an email from a certain school in Ohio letting me know that I am one of two finalists and they will be making their decision next week.

No birds in the hand just yet, but lots of them in the bush. I am cautiously optimistic that something is going to work out for next year.
