The Man is Not Amused

Professor Alonzo Hamby thinks the responses to his last post missed the point. He clarifies:

I want to suggest the following points in roughly ascending order of importance: (1) Historical associations cheapen themselves when they pretend to speak for a wide membership on public issues not related to the profession they represent. (2) “Torture” is a powerful word that demands clear definition. (3) Human history is filled with difficult and ambiguous situations that do not lend themselves to soundbite moral judgment.
He speaks the truth, and some people, predictably, can't or won't handle it.

He isn't amused, but I was. Did you see his response in the comments?

Why, oh why, would you take on Hamby?! Ass kicking waiting to happen.

Your uncritical devotion to Alonzo is, well, admirable, I suppose.

Obviously some of us are better at determining what needs criticism than others. Feel good about it.

You obviously do.

Ralph "Feel Good About It" Luker's uncritical devotion to his own insanity is, well, worrisome, I suppose.

Congratulations. You've learned to post anonymous insults. When you grow up, maybe you'll develop the courage not to hide behind anonymity.

Wait, I have another one:
Ralph "Feel Good About It" Luker's uncritical devotion to his undistinguished career is well, predictable, I suppose.

Ok, this isn't the "make fun of Ralph Luker" site. No more anonymous insults. I will delete any anonymous comments about Mr. Luker.

I look forward to seeing all the honors that anonymous accrues in her career.

I assume we are not talking about Joe Klein. His biography of Woody Guthrie was pretty good.

Grant, I take it that you mean my "An Open Letter to the OAH's Vicki Ruiz and Lee Formwalt." Although I recently had dinner with Lee at the AHA convention, I've not received a reply to the Open Letter.
